With another pawn showing up in New Releases, clearly it's time to explain one of the most unusual moves in chess: “en passant” (French for “in passing”). Say your opponent's pawn tries to use its two-square opening move to avoid getting captured by one of your attacking pawns. The “en passant” rule means you can take out that pawn anyway — as long as you do it on your very next move!
