Star Wars™, one of the most popular sagas in cinematic history, immediately flew into the hearts of its fans. Decades and many iconic starships later, Hot Wheels is bringing these flying machines to the collector as originally conceptualized by George Lucas and designer Colin Cantwell.
Our Star Wars™ Original Concept Starships™ Series features these five surprising designs. How many of them will you recognize?
Concept Millennium Falcon™
This original concept had to be scrapped due to the premiere of the TV series Space 1999 before the release of Star Wars™, which had a ship with a similar look called the Eagle. The cockpit of the original Millennium Falcon™ remained the same, but other than that, the ship took on an entirely new and unique form!

Concept TIE Fighter™
With its roaring engine inspired by WW2 Super Dive-Bombers, the TIE Fighter™ design was influenced from paintings by artist John Beckey. Lucas and Cantwell had to make sure this ship looked different from the good guys, opting for a completely different shape.
Concept X-wing Fighter™
One of the most lethal ships in the Rebel fleet, the X-wing Fighter™ body was inspired by a pub dart. The wings on the cinematic versions are lower due to a malfunctioning wing on one of the X-wing models. The partially open wings resonated with the designers and took on the ship’s final look!
Concept Star Destroyer™
The Empire’s Star Destroyer™ is perhaps one of the most important ships in their arsenal. The unique shape is derived from century-old Dreadnought Battleships and, wait for it … a paper airplane. This random combination created a lethal piece of machinery for galactic warfare!
Concept Landspeeder™
This ground transportation vehicle came from various ideas and drawings George Lucas had seen over time. Despite this not being a fighting vehicle, without the Landspeeder™, Luke Skywalker™ would have never been able to raise the money to fly to Alderaan™ and become the hero we all know and love
All five of these Starships™ are newly tooled versions. The first mix should be on the pegs already, and the second mix is scheduled to arrive out of hyperspace in August.
Mix 1 (June 2018)
Mix 2 (August 2018)
